Compos[t]ing is an art project consisting of three elements: a physical sculpture situated in Cinquantenaire Park in Brussels, along with two digital replicas. This is one of the digital ‘replicas’ Compos[t]ing offers a comprehensive exploration of soil, encompassing various themes and spanning a significant period of time.
It is a realtime animation video installation directed by Ingrid Mayrhofer-Hufnagl. Exhibited at the Art Center for Digital Cultures & Technology in Brussels (start: May 2024). Digital Animation Art by Lorenz Foth.
The digital part of the art & technology project ‘Compos[t]ing’ is a generative pointcloud animation of organic behaviour of soil visualized artistically through a point cloud animation. The pointclouds were programmed in Python to be able to morph shapes and textures and cameras and effects were further animated and added via TouchDesigner and Python. Each point behaves according to the changes of soil data collected between 2009 and 2018 across Europe. Lorenz Foth was responsible for all the technical work in TouchDesigner and Python. There is a physical sculpture counterpart of the project located in the Parc du Cinquantenaire in Brussels in summer of 2024. The sculpture also appears as a versatile point cloud in the video installation. Video installation exhibition: Art Center for Digital Cultures & Technology in Brussels (summer 2024).
